 Karl Dean
Karl Dean is a Professional Trader, Venture Capitalist and Angle Investor.  Karl has a background in Structural Engineering and Finance. In addition to having a background in accounting from the CGA, Karl has been a Professional Scuba Diver for over 20 years and has taught for 10 of those years.

Since early 2000, Karl has been employed in the oil and gas industry. While still in school, Karl received his first taste of the stock market through an employee stock purchase plan at The Home Depot. Thereafter, a relationship with the market began to develop.

Karl trades on several markets in the United States, Canada, Europe, and Asia, including stock indices, futures, options and warrants, individual stocks, and currency (forex) exchanges. Additionally, Karl offers aspiring professional traders trading instruction and a range of market research and trading services.

Karl’s Obsession with the Market

In June of 2008, while examining stock charts, Karl observed something intriguing: oil prices had changed their pace by breaking the upward trendline. This by itself was not cause for alarm; nevertheless, the more Karl looked, the more charts he discovered exhibiting the same characteristics. Even the VXX, which indicates market sentiment, began to increase. This was the only indication Karl required, so he liquidated all of his long holdings and began shorting stocks. This sort of trading performed quite well for the following six months or so, until the spring of 2009, when things began to shift and the longest Bull Market run to date began. Karl's usage of these trading strategies led him originate the slogan "There is Always a Bull Market."
Finding the time to conduct research on the transactions they want to make, according to Karl, is the most difficult aspect of retail trading. Finding a dependable alert service that delivers trading ideas is, at best, tough. Karl launched Alien Investment Corp in 2007 with the intention of demonstrating that it is possible to maintain a full-time career and trade the stock market on the side.

Experience

Karl has over 25 years of experience as a professional trader on the US, Canadian, European, and Asian markets. He has expertise evaluating numerous financial markets, from the 2008 financial crisis to the longest bull market, and developing new trading strategies and systems for scalping, day, swing, and position trading.

Education

From Accounting to Engineering, Karl's education is diverse and well-rounded. His advanced education includes advanced mathematics, physics, and accounting from the CGA of Alberta.

The Financial and Economics courses studied as part of the CGA proved to be a significant asset in giving the information required to identify and evaluate firms during Karl’s Venture Capital and Angel Investing stages. When studying possible stocks to trade, Karl employs these talents to pick out undesirable companies to go long or good companies to short.

Karl is also an expert in Technical Analysis, having been trained by some of the most respected figures in the financial business, including Steve Nison and Dr. Van Tharp.

Karl lives in Calgary with his beautiful wife Kristen and two daughters Madison and Lily.  Karl enjoys wine collecting, cooking and spending time with family and friends.

The Birth of DarkPool Trading

DarkPool Trading was born out of the desire to help people learn to trade the markets. In the beginning DarkPool trading started out with the name Black Money Traders. Black Money Traders got its name from the Oil and Gas Industry, Black Money meaning that the seed money came from Oil or black gold. During the height of the COVID era it was changed to DarkPool Trading, but the logo of the maple leaf and oil was kept.

Karl was always eager to assist others, and he enjoyed discussing stocks, the stock market, and education. In his early years, before to the 2008 Financial Crash, Karl encouraged his colleagues to share his enthusiasm for the market. Then, in late 2008, Karl took time away from his engineering position to short the stocks of Lehman Brothers, Bear Stearns, Feddie Mac, and Fannie Mae. Then, upon his return, Karl shared his experiences with his coworkers and friends.

This continued into 2009, when the majority of Alberta's Oil and Gas workers were laid off. Without employment and a source of income most of Karl’s colleagues turned to him for help and guidance as to how to take money out of the market. This lasted for many years, and Karl's enthusiasm for the market, assisting others, and educating people, developed with time. Many people had told Karl to create a course officially so that he could help more people.

However, it wasn't until the COVID period arrived and Karl saw that many of his friends and coworkers were once again suffering employment insecurity that he decided to put the course together. "It was never about the money," Karl said in an interview. "The primary objective was to help people. I've been so blessed to have a terrific career and the opportunity to retain it, but the prospect of losing it and having no other source of income is really unsettling. I had the desire to give people peace of mind by providing them with alternative options. That is why, I do this."

Trading the market can bring people the financial freedom that other avenues cannot. Imagine having an extra $200 a day, or a week or even a month, how would that change things for you and your family? What if it was more than that, you could not work and travel or spend more time with your family. Or you could work a job or career that you love and not worry about how much the pay was, these are just a few of the many benefits that learning to make money in the stock market can provide.

This Is What DarkPool Trading is All About.

FAQ

How Often Are The Mentorship Sessions?
We run the mentorship sessions every month, usually on the 3 Sunday of each month.
Why Do You Charge For Your Courses?
It was never about the money, I used to do it for free.  What I found was that people would not show up or put in the effort because they had nothing on the line.  Once I started to charge for my courses I found that the students would show up and give it their all to learn, in turn making them more successful.
What Is Day Trading?
Day Trading refers to the strategy of buying and selling a stock in the same day.
What is Swing Trading?
Swing Trading refers to the strategy of buying a stock and holding it for several days to weeks
What Is Position Trading?
Position Trading refers to the strategy of buying and holding stocks for several week and longer.
Can I Trade While I Work Full Time?
Yes! I have many traders that trade part-time while working a full-time job. In general these traders choose swing trading. They enter trades, place live stop orders, and walk away. This is the best strategy for trading while working. Some of our members are in different time zones and can trade for 1hr of the U.S. Stock Market before or after work. The best hour to trade is from 9:30am-10:30am.
Can I Make Money By Following Trade Alerts?
You cannot simply mirror trade and expect to make a living. You must educate yourself if you want to be a successful trader.
Can I Trade Other Markets Other Than The US And Canadian?
I have many international students in our educational programs and trading with us. While some of my strategies could be applied to foreign markets, I focus on only the US and Canadian Stock Market because it provides the most opportunities for day trades & swing trades.
I trade the North American Markets starting with the open at 9:30am EST, and about 15-30 minutes before in which we build out watch lists. I focus on trading only the first 2 hours of the market open. This works well for many of my students in Asia and Australia who have to stay up late to trade. However, it also makes it a great opportunity for many traders to make money trading the markets while still maintaining a full time job!
